Yes, And!  Improvisation for Mathematicians and Statisticians

April 10, 2025

Description

This interactive workshop will introduce approaches adapted from improvisational theater to enhance communication in professional settings.  In a supportive environment, we will develop skills for engaging a variety of audiences mathematicians and statisticians commonly encounter, ranging from talk attendees to other conference participants.   Along the way, we will introduce tools for building a bridge between your main (perhaps very technical) points and what matters to the audiences you hope to reach.  We will also focus on building a sense of community heading into the main IPC workshop.  Come prepared to be active, participate, and get out of your comfort zone.

Note: This workshop does not focus on humor, but laughter and fun are guaranteed to happen anyway.  No prior experience with improv is expected, and there will be no performances.  The workshop is open to graduate students, postdocs, faculty, people working in industry, and others who already have research to discuss, who have registered and been accepted to attend IPC 2025.

It will take place from 1 pm – 4:30 pm on Thursday, April 10, 2025 at IMSI. You can indicate interest in the IPC registration form.
